Flexibility of The Lifetime SIPP

The Lifetime SIPP is a member-directed flexible pension plan promoted exclusively through professional advisers. Your clients can invest in a wide range of investments with a strategy to suit their risk profile and aspirations. Lifetime undertake due diligence on all investment accepted under The Lifetime SIPP. Please note that if Lifetime accept an investment we are by no means advising on the investments suitability for a particular client nor are we promoting or endorsing the use of any investment. We recommend that Advisers check that an investment is accepted under The Lifetime SIPP before advising their client and submitting the investment application.

Simple documentation lets advisers help clients set up a plan and (with an employer, if applicable) make contributions at any time. We and Hartley SAS Ltd do the administration and reporting to HMRC, leaving clients and their advisers in control. Cash may be held in an integral bank account and an investment manager can be appointed for non-collective investments.

Contributions are permitted up to the greater of £3,600 gross (£2,880 net) or 100% of the member's UK relevant earnings. Tax relief is available on contributions up to the annual allowance £40,000 gross for 2016/17. The total fund must not exceed the lifetime allowance £1 million from 2016/17, or a tax charge of up to 55% may apply to the surplus, unless HMRC has granted the client 'protection' from this.

For those who wish to invest only in cash deposits or include a suitable invesment element and receive transfers in from other pension arrangements, we offer The Elective SIPP. The Elective SIPP allows transfers from other Pension Providers and a single suitable invesment. Those requiring maximum investment flexibility can start off with The Optimum SIPP or upgrade from The Elective SIPP.

Taking benefits is also flexible. When the client wants to retire, or simply wind down a little, The Lifetime SIPP lets them take their pension commencement lump sum and then either purchase an annuity, with part or all of the balance of the fund, or draw an income directly from the fund. They can decide to 'crystallise' benefits in stages after reaching the age of 55. You cannot purchase an annuity from The Lifetime SIPP Company, it would have to be purchased via an open market option.
